Back in 2010, we were part of this restaurant build in Manhattan Beach CA.  With the West facing ocean view, the sun was a real issue.  The owner asked us for suggestions to help maintain an upscale ambiance, and maintain the priceless view.  We achieved this by installing motorized Mecho roller shades made with 5% openness solar shades.

Every day, in the early afternoon, when the sun starts coming in through the floor-to-ceiling glass wall, the shades automatically lower, providing shade and cooling the patrons, and enhancing their views.  And then every evening just before sunset the shades quietly raise to provide an unobstructed view of the sun setting over the pacific ocean.

Do they help?  YES!  There have been a few times one or more shades have stopped working, and the manager has told me the sales drop when the shades are not working, no one wants to sit near the windows.  They comp food and drink because its so hot, and the staff really doesn’t like a hot grumpy customer.
